Who controls your data
First 8 Seconds is operated by SpeakQuery. Privacy questions can be sent to info@speakquery.ai.
What we collect
We process a random installation or guest identifier, a server-generated or player-chosen nickname, player progression, category mastery, earned virtual rewards, in-game item purchase and spending history, selected answers, correctness, response time, score breakdown, and, for Duels, matchmaking queue, ready state, match and result records, as well as player reports with the reported player, reason, and related match when provided. When you report an incorrect question, we store your written explanation with your player ID to review and moderate that report. We also process app language, theme, sound and accessibility preferences, app version, and coarse device information. If you use Sign in with Apple, we store Apple's account-specific identifier, an encrypted revocation credential, and a one-way keyed digest used only to prevent a repeated one-time Apple sign-in reward; the authorization code and identity token are used only to verify the link and are not retained. If you enable notifications, we also process an encrypted Apple push token, its hash, time zone, notification preferences, delivery status, and notification-open events. We never receive your Apple password and do not collect contacts, precise location, health data, payment-card details, free-form profile biographies, messages, chat, or typed answer text. The first release offers no in-app purchases and does not collect App Store transaction history. We do not receive payment-card details.
How information is collected
You provide preferences in the app. Solo gameplay records are saved on your device first and synchronized with our service when connectivity returns. Online Duels require a live service connection. Optional first-party analytics events are sent only when analytics is enabled in the app and can be disabled later in Profile settings. The website stores only your language preference in your browser and does not use advertising cookies.
Why we use it
We use essential information to run the game, moderate chosen nicknames and player reports, protect and restore progression, calculate scores and earned rewards, match eligible Duel players, synchronize ready states, prevent reward abuse, provide support, and keep the service secure. With your optional analytics choice, we use aggregated interaction data to improve level quality, accessibility, reliability, and game balance. Notification data is used only for the notification categories you enable.
Legal bases
Depending on where you live, essential processing is based on providing the game you request, account and service security, our legitimate interests in preventing abuse and improving reliability, and compliance with legal obligations. Optional analytics and notifications rely on your choice where consent is required. You can withdraw that choice in the app without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Sharing and tracking
We do not sell personal data, show advertising, or use cross-app advertising tracking. First-party game and analytics records are stored on infrastructure operated for SpeakQuery and are shared only with service providers needed to run and secure the game under appropriate safeguards. Only if you write your own Duel nickname and explicitly agree in the app do we send that nickname and your app language to our configured third-party AI moderation provider, OpenRouter or SiliconFlow, for a safety review. Choosing one of the 20 generated safe nicknames does not send a nickname or app language to that provider. Apple may process push notification, App Store, and TestFlight information under Apple's own terms.
Retention and your choices
Guest or Apple-linked profile, gameplay, operational, and notification records are kept only while reasonably needed for the purposes above, security, and legal obligations. The keyed Apple-account digest used to prevent duplicate onboarding grants is retained for 24 months for fraud prevention, including after account deletion, and is then eligible for deletion. Invalid push tokens are disabled. You can change analytics and notification choices in the app, change system permission in iPhone Settings, request access or correction, and delete your account and associated game data from Profile settings. Deleting an Apple-linked account also revokes the app's Apple authorization.
Your privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a portable copy of relevant personal data. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. Contact us with your Support ID so we can locate the correct installation record.
Age and families
The game is designed primarily for adults and may be played by people aged 13 or older. It is not intended for children under 13. Local rules may require parental permission for some younger players to use online accounts or social features. Parents and guardians can contact us about a player account or deletion request.
Security and international processing
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards. Data may be processed where our service providers operate, subject to applicable safeguards.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the game or legal requirements change. We will post the new date here and provide additional notice in the app when a change materially affects your choices.
